Mads Mikkelsen at the 62nd Berlinale Closing Ceremony 18.02.2012

On the last day of the Berlinale Mads Mikkelsen was the star of the red carpet. It was a surprise for all the Berlinale Fans around the World. I had missed him on the official premiere night of “A Royal Affair” that he starred in. The movie is about King Christian the VII of Denmark and his affairs. More about the movie on the wikipedia link: THEWIKIPEDIALINK

MADS RETURNS THE PERMANENT MARKER!

He was really nice! Mads was “The Star” of the closing ceremony. Mr. Mikkelsen was not in a rush and posed for every camera and signed every paper and photo that was placed before him! He was the poster boy for “How a Movie-Star should interact with Fans on the red carpet” He was aware that he had used a fans permanent marker (for signing autographs) and returned it to the rightful owner. He is one class act from Denmark!

This was the second time I had photographed at the Berlinale (As a Fan and without a pass). It was fun! The Berlinale committee sought out more than enough Stars for the Fans who look forward to standing in the cold in February to get a glimpse of the Stars in Berlin. Meeting people and sharing smiles is all part of it. I was happy to meet people I had met last year (61 Berlinale); I’m sure my Cumples will be there next year.

If you know you will be in Berlin in February, The Berlinale is worth experiencing!

I thank, Dieter Kosslick and his team as well as the City of Berlin who made the 62nd Berlinale safe and Fan Friendly for all the frozen fans who look forward to the event.

BerlinBolide & Endings

Endings are sad! They are sad because we adapted ourselves to a routine and must leave it.  But is it really the end? Or, the beginning of something new! In a day, we probably end and begin countless of actions without knowing it. Change. That’s what it is! Change is good and necessary for our existence.

When we end a task we can feel proud of completing it. The experience gained is immeasurable. Unfinished or neglected projects will come back to haunt you. When a good movie, book, project or event comes to an end, we usually go through a reflection stage and the subconscious already has the next thing for you to do!

So, don’t waste anymore time. Pick up that book, go to the gym, and give up drinking alcohol. Opportunities are in abundance! Recreate yourself into how you imagine yourself. It’s hard work but all good things do not come easy! No Pain No Gain! And, finish all the food on your plate! Start from there!

Have a super Day,

Pete

“Bel Ami“ premiere at the 62nd Berlinale with Robert Pattinson, Christina Ricci & Holliday Grainger. 17.02.2012

Robert Pattinson loves his Fans! 62nd Berlinale. 17.02.2012

Hello there BerlinBolide Readers Around The World. The “Bel Ami” premiere was absolutely the biggest premiere at the 62nd Berlinale because of one young actor from England, Robert Pattinson. Although the turn out was huge, Robert Pattinson went to the Fan section at the far end and started signing autographs and even posed with lucky Fans with their cell/handy cameras. He did not stop after a couple of minutes but went all the way to the other end of the Fans who were excitedly waiting for their moment with him. It was super! He spent about 15 minutes signing, maybe more.

Christina Ricci, Robert Pattinson & Holliday Gainger

The front photo I got, basically, describes the feeling if you go to a Robert Pattinson premiere. I did not try to make contact with him for a good shot because on two previous premieres I came out without success. He is there for his Fans! That’s a good rule for Stars!

Christina Ricci having a word with Robert Pattinson.

Robert Pattinson get's out of the valet & switched gears!

Christina Ricci looked absolutely fabulous in her shiny dress. And, in super shape! I was happy she dropped “BUCKY” for Robert! I was concentrating on getting her photograph at the premiere, as I never had the chance before.  Do you remember the movie “Monster” with Charlize Theron? Christina also starred in the movie. It was long ago but she went on to become a well-respected Hollywood actress. She, also, starred in The Adams Family and starred with Johnny Depp and many more.

About the Movie

[BEL AMI is the story of Georges Duroy, who travels through 1890s Paris, from cockroach ridden garrets to opulent salons, using his wits and powers of seduction to rise from poverty to wealth, from a prostitute’s embrace to passionate trysts with wealthy beauties, in a world where politics and media jostle for influence, where sex is power and celebrity an obsession.] Taken from: http://www.magpictures.com/belami/

BerlinBolide & Education

After reading “About the Movie” I can’t help to write about the importance of education. Sure the world is upside-down at the moment because we are still children playing with toys. Technology is not being utilized to help us but to tease and brainwash those who have the money to buy the newest, coolest, gadget while the less fortunate become more envious and frustrated. How smart is that? Buying things that are probably oil based articles! We need more brains! Not new articles that will end up in the garage, basement or where ever you place the rejected toys that were once loved and cried for.

Through education, the young generation should be considerate to the planet. Go to school to learn something that will help the current state it’s in. Learning something that will make you a lot of money will only make you a slave. It is better to have less and know who you are, than rich, lonely and lost!

Remember, life is not out there somewhere; it’s deep inside you. The unconscious is very powerful! Find it and you’ll feel what living is about. Be good to yourself, to your family to your friends, to the planet and even to your enemies!

Have a great day,

Pete

“Haywire” Premiere at the 62nd Berlinale with Antonio Banderas, Michael Fassbender & Gina Carano. 15.02.2012

Michael Fassbender at t h e 62nd Berlinale

Dear BerlinBolide Readers Around The World, here are the “Haywire” premiere pictures I managed to scrape up after the “La Chispa de la Vida” premiere. My camera was on the brinks but it was still an exciting premiere at the Berlinale Palast location.  It was cold but dry . Antonio Banderas and Michael Fassbender, pulled together, called for one of the biggest premieres at the 62nd Berlinale.

Here is the link to the “Official” Haywire movie: HAYWIREOFFICIALWEBSITELINK

BerlinBolide is about…? Not sure what it’s about but has some nice pictures!

Antonio spying on the Fans with squinted eyes!

When Antonio Banderas came out of the valet he was right away looking over the Fan section with squinting eyes taking it all in and probably planning his attack on us. Fans that is! He was absolutely in the moment. Micheal Fassbender and Antonio Banderas both created a joyful and memorable premiere with their easygoing nature and respect for the Fans who came out to see them.

Gina Carano. Gina…Carano. That’s Italian right? Yes it is but Gina is American with forefathers from Italy. Miss Carano, literally, fought hard for where she is at the moment. It was very interesting reading her biography and is a good roll model for girls growing up today. Here’s a link on Wikipedia: GINACARANOWIKIPEDIALINK.

She was a little cold in her mini dress but she still gave her two minutes to the Fans. Two minutes seems long to them and feels like a seconds to us Fans. The point is she gained many new Fans and followers. Because she was nice!

The premiere was so wild I did not have Steven Soderbergh & Natascha Berg in my view to get a really good photo.

Michael Fassbender was also really nice to us Fans! He signed and posed with Fans until the very last moment. Even during his interviews & press photo shooting he was connecting with the Fans. Michael & Antonio even put on a “Gun Fight at the Berlinale Palast”. They really created the tone of the premiere. It was fun, memorable and a pleasure.

Michael Fassbender strikes a pose for the press

Antonio & Michael get into a gun fight on the Red Carpet!

Just one of those days! Sometimes things don’t work out the way we want them to be. My camera was finished on that premiere. Many of the photos in this Blog are heavily cropped and filtered for Internet viewing with the exception of the portrait of Gina Carano. Thanks Gina!

Manual mode 125-160sec. At 2.8-4.5

Have a Super Day

Salma Hayek in Berlin for the “La Chispa de la Vida” Premiere. 15.02.201

Salma Hayek: Actress, model, producer, director, Mexican-American.

Hello BerlinBolide Readers around the World. Here are the photos I got of the “La Chispa de la Vida” premiere. It was cold! I was at the Friedrichstadt Palast location early and to my surprise some friendly “Cumples”  (German for “Buddies”, not really friends) I had met at last year’ Berlinale, saved me a spot for me right next to the official press section. I was there two hours before the arrival of Salma Hayek. My Cumples were there 5 hours before!

Salma with The Press.

Being in the cold for so long damages the nerves! I remember on that day I had the Keanu premiere, the White Deer Premiere, over to the “La Chispa” premiere and to finish it off, back to the Berlinale Palast for the “Haywire” premiere with Antonio Banderas (my next Blog). When Salma was on the red carpet my camera was already at its end (cold and not functioning properly). My semi professional Canon camera does the job but it is not built for the cold. The lens is a Sigma 2.8 but sometimes the contacts give out and must fire on rapid mode to get the connection back. I usually clean the heads of both, lens and camera before a shooting. I hope to have a new Camera soon as I know, after more than 200K photos, something will snap! Besides the technical problems, I had the jitters (that’s when your really cold and can’t stop shaking). That’s not good for a photographer.

Salma Saying "Adios!" To the Official Press

Like I said, I was right beside the press section and was just concentrating on getting one good photo of Salma Hayek! I did and was surprised to see that I got many good photos that evening. I know the human spirit, when focused, can achieve more than we think. I believe human capabilities are limited because of barriers, rules and the environment we live in. It is only through experiences that we can overcome the pain to stay focused on the path. Concentration is an ability that requires training.

Salma Hayek was very natural! We see the actors on the big screen and wonder what they are like in real life. Salma did not act on the red carpet. She was herself. After reading about her on the net, I have become more of a fan  (I am a movie Fan but it does not interest me to know about the actors private life or present gossip)

Alejandro de la Iglesia: Director (Spain) "La Chispa de la Vida"

Alex de la Iglesia, the director, started out as a comic book artist! He is now a cult celebrity because of his weird scense of humour. In an earlier post, I had written that it is good to take pictures of persons on the red carpet even if you do not know them. Alejandro (Alex) was one of those I photographed with my “Find-Out-Later” rule. Good rule! Great shot! At first, the hand disturbed me, but after viewing it over and over again, it fits!

Jose Sanchez Mota: Comedian/ Actor (Spain)

Carolina Bang: Actress/Model (Spain)

.

The “Find-Out- Later” rule was automatic for Jose Sanchez Mota & Carolina Bang! Jose Mota was a famous comedian for twenty years before going into movies. Before the being a famous comedian he was in the military. Carolina Bang was (is) a model. Although we dream of a privileged life like the stars we sometimes forget the hard work, dedication and focus they have. We all have the ability. It’s for everyone. It’s no secret!

Enjoy the Day,

Pete

Keanu Reeves Attends the 62nd Berlinale. 15.02.2012

To all the Keanu Reeves Fans! Here are some photos of him when he attended the 62nd Berlinale on February 15, 2012. Keanu did not star in Chris Kenneally’s film “Side by Side” but co-produced it and narrated the documentary film about film versus digital filming. I got there about 30 minutes before his arrival at the Festspiele location. It was mid afternoon, the same time fans were still in school or at work. All together there was about 200 Fans. He spent enough time with the press & his Fans. He even jumped the rope to get to a section of fans that he had missed! I have been a fan of Keanu Reeves ever since “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”.

To The BerlinBolide Readers around the World! This BLOG (berlinbolide) started as a hobby in October 2010. I used it as a place to exhibit my photography of the famous people that come and go through Berlin. I mainly write about the day, the stars that attended the red carpet and how I got the shot. After 47 BLOGS (this is 48), It has become a little bit of a bore to continuously write about the weather! Being it a diary for moi, I will continue to write the small details, that I normally do for my record at the end of each BLOG or the beginning of it.

I know Internet Surfers are only looking at the photographs and that is why they return to BerlinBolide. I must admit that I am surprised of its success! It was never my goal to satisfy my ego with its statistics. I would like to start broadening my writing style to write about important things to think about. Topics such as: discrimination, Integration, Family, sociology, religion, politics, health & education. Living in Berlin, I can only write about my experiences that occur here. I find Berlin a very unique place as it does have a “Multi-Culti” (multi cultural) flair but lacks the international feeling with its citizens. Integration is top priority with the Government at the moment! Where to start? You start with the kids! I hope if you are still reading and have children to encourage them to start learning how to read English. That is my present goal. To have it child safe, educational, in easy written English for young people & adults alike.

I always wanted to be a press photographer before knowing what it was really about. Since adolescence, I was drawn to the pictures of the stars in the magazines. It was probably the same time I started using my Dad’ ASHAI! “How do they get those fantastic pictures?” I would say. I know now because I made it to the press; and like bolides made an exit! Some times the view is not what you had expected once reaching the summit! I was basically discriminated, mobbed, called a cheater and needed the help of a lawyer to receive my payment for my published photos (Yes, I won). My photo credits were not available. What does a freelance foreign photographer do? The press pass office does not issue press passes to freelance photographers. They only give passes to those who work with a media company. When I worked for the press it was not necessary to have a press pass because the agencies are connected! So, I ask myself! Why do they even have a department issuing press passes? I was turned down every year since 2008.

I do enjoy shooting the Stars and do it the hard way: without a press pass and without connections. I recently gave myself a title: “FAN-ARTIST”. I am hoping through this blog’s popularity, I will be able to attend more events to present in BerlinBolide. Such as: music concert, theatre, literature, and fashion.

“It’s a lot of work!” One photographer said to me recently at the ECHO AWARDS (to maintain a BLOG). He’s right. It is. I had told him about WORDPRESS and how easy it is just by using the basic features. Like everything, the beginning is the hardest part. What brings success is consistency and believing in yourself. Because of WORDPRESS and you, the fire to photograph still burns. And here, you may use the photographs for free on your site with a link to my site as a credit. I love to share. Sharing is part of the formula in making a better world, better self and a better BLOG.

“Excellent Dude!”

Sincerely,

Peter R. Miranda

P.S. This is the first time that “comments” are open. Please keep it child safe & intelligent!

“Jayne Mansfield’s Car” Premiere at the 62 Berlinale with Billy Bob Thornton & John Hurt 13.02.2012

Billy Bob Thornton: Actor/Director

I just love the Berlinale! This year the regular fans mumble was” The Berlinale is not as good as last year”. Well, that’s what I heard last year. The weather was milder than last year; the stars were out to be seen.

Billy Bob Thornton’s film “Jayne Mansfield’s Car” was premiered at the Berlinale in which he directed and stars in. The movie is a comedy drama set in the 1960s.

John Hurt: Legendary Actor

I was in my usual spot about three rows back. When the valet car came there were Billy Bob Thornton and John Hurt. I thought it was nice they shared a valet! Sharing is a gift! Anyways, Billy Bob was opposite the fans and Mr. Hurt exited on our side. He was right in there giving out autographs smiling and, basically, enjoying the moment. I called him for a shot (I always set myself for one shot. That’s my game) took it and without seeing it I said to him “Got it! Thanks!” Reviewing the photo quickly I said right away “No! I didn’t get it!”(an embarrassing expression but focused) He was laughing and kindly posed for something a little more presentable. Thanks Mr. Hurt! (The voice of the dragon from Merlin. And, tons of other projects. Pure Legend)

Seconds later, Billy Bob sneaked up behind Mr. Hurt to give him a surprise ear pinch! It was my first attempt at getting a photo of Billy Bob and did not have the time to frame the picture with John Hurt in it. C’est la vie!

Billy Bob Thornton having a little fun with John Hurt's ear.

While Mr. Thornton gave out autographs, I was focused and concentrating for when it would be a good time for me to get into my gawk-er routine. I know my window of opportunity is open when I hear silence. It’s like I’m alone with the celebrity in the studio. Just for one! That’s the game remember? After getting a winner shot, I was thinking about the Santa hat that I had specially worn in honour of “Bad Santa”. Without fear I said to him “Hey Billy can you sign my Santa hat for me?” The fans were laughing who heard me. To their surprise,  he said he would come back to sign it. While I waited with my Santa hat in hand, I did not attempt to take anymore pictures. I knew I had super photos and was very happy. Like a true gentleman he came back commented how hard it was to sign a Santa hat with all the fluff; I said to him in one breath ,”It’s-a-must!” He looked over at John Hurt, laughed again, stretched the hat and signed it! I thanked him and he was of back to work on the red-carpet!

Thanks Billy Bob.

Christian Bale: Actor/Batman

Happy with the Premiere and heading home, autograph hunters were gathered at the neighbouring building. I asked one of them who is coming out? Christian Bale, “Oouu!” I said to myself. A bonus! He was all for the fans! He spent more time than I had expected. I tried to call him but  the silence was not to be heard. It didn’t bother me. I like to see the happy faces of others and take in the feeling of the atmosphere. The photo presented of Mr. Bale as you can see, is totally out of focus. Still presentable for Berlinbolide. Has that “Old School” black & white effect! I was wondering after seeing the photo (big), if he said to himself “Is that Santa?”

Enjoy the Day

DON2 Premiere: with Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and A SRK Fan. 11.02.2012

Priyanka Chopra: Actress, India, Berlin 11.02.2012

When I think about the DON2 and how cold it was, I just cringe! The amount of SRK Fans that waited all day just to get a look at him was, at every event he attends, astounding. I got at the Friedrichstadt Palast, where the premiere was held, two hours before the arrival of SRK, Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZcoEQ7dYuQ (German)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsHf2AQbZWY (Hindi)

The arrival of Priyanka was well known as the scream volume needle went directly to the far right without vibrating! I was prepared and waited for my chance to get some great shots of my fellow Indians. Perched upon my two-step ladder, I had a great view and knew I would get some memorable pictures for myself and for the fans around the world.

Priyanka looked absolutely gorgeous! If you think she looks gorgeous in the movies, make an effort to see her live! Better? Yes, she looks better live. She wore a lovely white sari that made her presence surreal. She looked like an Indian angel!

Farhan & Priyanka were very keen to give out autographs and spending time with the fans. The press coverage from around the world all got interviews and it seemed as if they were Bollywood fans them selves. When the press photos were finished for Priyanka and Farhan, the fans were all waiting for SRK.

Farhan Akhtar: Actor, India

We were waiting, waiting, and again, we waited. A man with a bullhorn appeared on the top of the landing and announced “SRK is at the airport but will make it to the opening in a couple of hours”. I was done! I could not stay any longer as my window of opportunity was closed. I have other responsibilities in life. I went home to have a hot chocolate and say “Goodnight” to my daughter who asked me if I got a good picture of SRK. I said, “He was coming later but I have nice pictures of Priyanka”. “That’s O.K” she said, “Priyanka is my favourite Bollywood actress”. Maybe next time SRK! It was the third time I missed photographing him. Funny thing is, it was never my fault!

A fan that waited all day with her self-painted SRK painting was all smiles as her dream came true. The Berlinale administration selectively picked her and presented her with a ticket to the premiere. Sometimes it pays to be patient! Or, young and wild!

DON 2 will be a smash hit! It already is. Let’s hope a DON 3 is being discussed and is in the planning phase.

Friedrchstadt Palast: Perfect place for an Indian premiere

NAMASTE!

62 Berlinale Opening Ceremony 09.02.2012

Dieter Kosslick warms-up the 62 Berlinale with Diane Kruger

The opening movie the 62nd Berlinale was “Farewell My Queen”, starring Diane Kruger as Marie Antoinette. On the Red Carpet, Miss Kruger spent plenty of time with the fans giving out autographs and posing for photos. She was elegantly dressed in black and had no fear of the sub-zero weather that hit Berlin a couple of weeks ago.

Diane Kruger with the Press

The weather did not bother BerlinBolide, as I was appropriately dressed for the cold. I thank Canada for teaching me “How to dress when it’s cold outside!” What bothered me, and I am sorry for publicly announcing, that the press photographers “Booed” Diane Kruger when she was done with the Red Carpet. I am purposely mentioning this rude behaviour to protect the fans. The fans greet all the stars with warm smiles and respect! The rest of the Berlinale I did not here any further “Booing” from the press section! I am assuming they were warned!

Dieter Kosslick, the Berlinale Director, was in high spirits on the Red Carpet! It’s his show after all and made it festive for Stars & Fans alike.

Sir Christopher Lee. Born, 1922 in London

A surprise at the opening is always welcome. This year, it was Sir Christopher Lee! Yes, Dracula! I was hoping for just one good picture of him. And got it! Dracula, I mean, Sir Christopher came out of the valet car and made sure every photographer in the fan section had a chance to photograph him. What a class act!

Jake Gyllenhaal: Actor/ 62nd Berlinale Jury Member

Jake Gyllenhaal, an American actor was also at the opening ceremony. He is part of the Jury for this year’s Berlinale. He was very kind to the many fans and spent enough time with them.

Sibel Kekilli: German actress of Turkish decent

Sibel Kekilli, a German actress of Turkish decent also made an appearance. I lately saw here in  “Game of Thrones” (British Series). She plays a seductress to the Royal Dwarf.

Mario Adolf: Actor

Veronica Ferres: Actress (Germany)

Nina Hoss & Natalia Wörner are "All Smiles"

German actors, Mario Adolf, Veronica Ferres, Nina Hoss, and Natalia Wörner were also present at the gala.

Huo Siyan: Actress (China)

My pick for “The best Look on the Red Carpet” was Huo Siyan an actress from China, who I came to know about at the 62 Berlinale. Now, so do you!

I was happy to take part in the opening as a fan! Festivals bring people together to enjoy and share one’s talent, meeting new acquaintances and creating beautiful memories.

Take Care,

Stay Warm,

Pete

Cameron Diaz in Berlin for the “Bad Teacher” Premiere. 17.06.2011

Cameron Diaz: Actor/Fan Friendly!

The “Bad Teacher“ Premiere in Berlin was absolutely huge! The main attraction was the star of the movie, Cameron Diaz. The premiere was at held at the Sony Centre, Potsdamer Platz. Cameron came out of the car and was escorted to the fan section where lucky fans got an autograph or a photo. I was located just beside the press photographers hoping for one good photo. The reason I had set myself up for one photo was because security got the order to forbid hobby photographers from using ladders. That was a first! I later found out, it was an order from Cameron Diaz’ personal security, not by Sony. I can understand the reason for trying to decrease the tasteless pictures that are being submitted in the Internet.

Bad taste in the Internet! The official press publishes embarrassing, tasteless and partial nudity photos. Just google any famous person, look for an embarrassing photo and check the credit. It, most probably, came from a big publishing company, and the site you see it in, is a big media company that was granted accreditation. Here in BERLINBOLIDE you will not find any such kind of photos. I try to capture something different. Sometimes, I do throw in an out-of-focus photo or a photo that will give you a smile but never photos that would be harmful to the artist(s). I consider my photos to be with taste.

I was told to not to use my ladder. I had already known about the ladder issue but saw that everyone was taller than me! How’s that! I’m usually looking down at 190cm (6` 3”) with shoes! It was only for Cameron Diaz (The ladder thing). When told, I kindly got down and stayed down, even if others continued to ignore the security rule. That creates problems! I am sure the day will come when ladder sales are down!

We’re all playing our role! Stars, red carpet, photographers, journalists, security guards, cameramen & women, escort personnel, drivers, hosts & hostesses, commentators, screaming fans and ladders are all part of what makes a premiere! Without one of the factors, the show becomes a charade.

Cameron Diaz was very professional! She did her duty and did it well. I was most impressed with the amount of time she took for her fans. She spent more time with them than the “Official Press”. To me, that is what red carpets are for. To get close to the fans; win their confidence. She is, also, in super shape! She wore a sleeveless black jumpsuit and was looking like a Super Heroine! “BAD TEACHER” will be a hit! No doubt about it! Ladder or no ladder!

Thanks again to the Sony Centre team for a well-organized, safe event, for the whole family!

Vitali & Wladimir Klitschko in Berlin for the “Klitschko” Premiere, 15.06.2011

Vitali & Wladimir Klitschko: Legendary Boxing Brothers

Wladimir Klitschko: Boxer

On Wednesday, June 15 2011, was the premiere of two special brothers who, literally, fought their way to the top. I’m talking about the boxing world’s most famous brothers, “The Klitschkos”. The documentary film is about the life story of two brothers who defied the odds. I am sure the movie is inspiring for non-boxing fans alike; just like “Rocky”. Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko are not only boxing champions but also family oriented people, which is the most important fact for survival. The movie, by the way, is simply called, “Klitschko”.

Vitali Klitschko: Boxer

Family comes first! It’s tacky to write such a thing but find we must be reminded, even if it’s to be read in a blog. We live in a world of self-centeredness and must revert back to thinking about the group. What is success when there is no one there to share it! Natalia Klitschko is always by her husband, Vitali. She is her husband’s number one fan. I have seen her on television beautifully dressed acting like a “Hockey Mom”. Who cares what you look like! That’s the point. She is supporting her family!

Vitali & Natalia Klitschko

Vitali & Natalia Klitschko: Family is everything!

At the premiere, I was not concentrated on being a photographer. I was a fan! I located myself along side the other “Hobby Photographers” and waited for Vitali and Wladimir to get an autograph. I had my camera ready but was hanging around my neck most of the time. I just wanted to be eye-to-eye with one of my favorite boxers. I did manage to get both of the brothers’ autographs and then got some photographs for myself to share.

Edin Desosa: Chef Designer "Schwarze-Reiter"

Before “The Klitschkos”, some prominent guests were on the red carpet. Edin Desosa, Chef Designer at “Schwarzer-Reiter”  was quietly walking by. I had noticed him and called him over. I was not prepared and got this out-of-focused, old time, black & white effect photo. Still good! A little artzie! He is a designer!

McFit Models: Just part of the boxing scene!

And, how about the “McFit Models”? I will include them. The last time I seen a live boxing match was at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and can’t remember if they had those pretty card girls!

That’s it for the “Klitschkos”.

Have a Great Day,

Pete

“Tom Hanks” in Berlin for the “Larry Crowne” Premiere. 09.06.2011

Tom Hanks: Comedian/Actor/Director/Producer/Writer

The „Larry Crowne“ premiere in Berlin was held at the famous Sony Centre, Potsdamer Platz on June 9, 2011. It was a perfect summer day in spring. I got there just in time and had about 10 minutes to set up before the first guests were scheduled to arrive. Tom Hanks and his team, surprisingly, were first in line. He got out of the car; posed for his personal photographer and was guided towards the press section for the press photos & interviews.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks Interview (Click to Enlarge)

It started and was over in a flash! Mr. Hanks is not into red carpets or posing for the photographers (It seems like that in Germany from what I had witnessed). While being interviewed, he gave short answers and went on to the next. At the end of the press section just before the cinema doors, fans gathered where Tom gave out some autographs. He waved and was “Booed”! Mr. Hanks reacted with “Awe! Come on!” and continued to exit the red carpet area towards the escalators, rising him up to the upper level of the movie hall. On the escalator, he was pretending to drink coffee (front photo), as there is a Café adjacent to the level he was at, at the moment. I could not see the customers at the Café because of a tree, but they got a personal “Tom Hanks” show.

Tom Hanks: One of his, many, looks!

Tom Hanks is one of my favourite Hollywood stars ever since “Bosom Buddies” (1980-1982, 37 shows). I had the opportunity to call to him when he was entering the theatre with his team. I shouted out “Tom! Ever since Bosom Buddies!” He shouted back “You’re the man!” with thumbs up. One of his friends/managers, also, gave me a thumbs-up! That was my high light of the evening! I had especially packed my camera away to show them I was not interested in getting further pictures!

Tom Hanks with his Fans

I was content with the red carpet and was ready to go only to see a mass group of people behind the cinema hall. That means he’s coming out! I unpacked and got some more shots. He looked more at ease giving autographs! He was out of there, and so was I. Happy!

Tom Hanks has left the auditorium

Sarah Knappik: Model

What is an article without a blond?  Here she is, Sarah Knappik! A German model who attended the premiere of  “Larry Crowne”.

Enjoy the days,

Jack Black in Berlin for the “Kung-Fu Panda 2” Premiere, 07.06.2011

Jack Black: Actor/Comedian

Jack Black is back with Kung-Fu Panda 2! The German premiere of “Kung-Fu Panda 2” was held on June 7, 2011. It was a sunny, hot day. The location was across the street from the Sony Center in a smaller cinema, CINEMAXX. I got there just in time.

Bettina Zimmermann, Cosma Shiva Hagen, Ralf Schmitz, Harpe Kerkeling

Harpe Kerkeling: Comedian/Actor/Legend

I entered from the press section to get to the fan section. Saw a friend I had met at a previous event and decided to set up beside him. If you imagine the letter “L”, we would be at the corner. The top being the entry point for the stars making their way to the corner, turning left to head for the doors.

Cosma Shiva Hagen taking care of her fans

It was a small but cozy premiere where everyone who made the effort to show up had a great view to get a glimpse of their favorite stars. The only attraction representing the American actors was Jack Black. He was clean-shaven and wore a silk suit with a t-shirt of a fox with red beams of light zapping out of them. He did his usual posing in the Kung-Fu stands that he mastered and was not shy to flaunt it!

Gottfried John: Actor

Fiona Erdmann: Model/PlayBoy/Self

The German stars were represented by: Bettina Zimmerman, Cosma Shiva Hagen, Gottfried John, Harper Kerkeling and Rolf Schmitz. They did the voice synchronization for the movie. Fiona Erdmann, a former “Germany’s Next Top Model” also made an appearance for the Kung-Fu Panda 2 premiere. The red carpet show was hosted by, none other than, Steven Gätjen.

Enjoy The Days,

“Karate Kid” Premiere in Berlin with Jackie Chan & “The Smith-Pinkett Family” 19.07.2010

Jackie Chan & Jaden Smith. Berlin, 19.07.2010

19.07.2010. Karate Kid (remake) Premiere in Berlin was big! Jackie Chan & Jaden Smith was the main attraction. Will Smith & jada Pinkett-Smith (Jaden’s parents) were also there in support of their famous son. Jaden’s sister, Willow Smith and Uncle, Caleed Pinkett, also made the trip to Berlin for the Karate Kid Tour.

Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith

Willow Smith: Actor

It was a beautiful evening. Very sunny and hot! The fans were plenty. This was one of the biggest premieres at the Sony Center/Cine Star in 2010. It was so crowded it was very hard to get a good photo. It was only possible when the actors entered the cinema and stood on the balcony overlooking the fans. From the balcony, they watched a Karate show from a local Karate school. It was exciting!

Caleed Pinkett: Actor/Writer

Jackie Chan was the first to greet the fans from above. He cared for everyone. He genuinely smiled and gave his fans an intimate look! He is one class act! Young, Jaden Smith, followed his master and together they waved and posed to the fans. I am sure they developed a special relationship with each other while making the film. It’s only natural as Jackie comes from a spiritual background and Jaden Smith being his student.

Will Smith, Martin Bachmann, Steven Gätjen

I was happy the whole family made the trip. Not because of getting photos of one of Hollywood’s most famous family but the meaning behind a family!

Together we stand, divided we fall.

“Water for Elephants” Premiere in Berlin with Robert Pattinson, Christoph Waltz & Francis Lawrence 27.04.2011

The European premiere of “Water for Elephants” was on 27.04.2011 at the, now famous, Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz, Berlin. It was a beautiful evening, warm and packed! Why was it packed? Because of one man from London, Robert Pattinson!

Robert Pattinson: Actor

The 24 year old actor is, today’s, movie industry’s top magnet. The premiere was full of teeny girl fans with bad makeup jobs and…older women with bad makeup jobs! That reminds me; I need a real job! “Water for Elephants” will be a box office smash! I have heard the movie did not get good ratings. Why do they give ratings? Who rates them? The movie will make a profit. That’s important. There are many movies made that have meaningful messages for us to think about or just to be aware of what’s going on in the world we live in. Those movies don’t make it to the rating tables as they are not worth wasting time over. That’s Entertainment!

It was very difficult to get a good shot of him. The portrait shot was the over all best picture I made. Yes, it’s out of focus, but still worth sharing. It was the biggest premiere at the Sony Center this year. The last time I remember a premiere being so full was at the “Karate Kid” premiere with Jaden Smith & Jackie Chan (My next blog). This premiere was bigger! Every 3 meters (9.83 Feet) was a security guard along the dividers. Escorting Mr. Pattinson on both sides were 4-6 other security guards. (Those teenies with bad makeup jobs are known to be dangerous). He was very willing to give out autographs and pose with his fans. He was stopped by the management as time was getting on. Important was he spent time with the fans. He was with his fans longer than I expected. He then went to the official press shots and on to the interviews for the German media.

Francis Lawrence: Director

Francis Lawrence directed the movie. He was suprised at the fact that „The Fans“ were calling him over to get an autograph. He went over to the section (without security) and then the chain reaction followed. He was all smiles and it seemed like he enjoyed the attention. I was also happy as he was right in front of me and got his picture. I usually set my self up for one shot, wait for the perfect moment for person2person communication, then photograph. When I called him to look up; he posed like a pro! The shot of the day.

Christoph Waltz: Actor

Christoph Waltz was also very keen on giving out autographs and posing for pictures. I did not see a window of  opportunity in getting  his attention for a really good shot. With Mr. Waltz, he was taking care of his real fans and I felt it would be inappropriate to disturb him. I also enjoy to be silent and take things as they are.

I left the premiere before it was over. I had my shots and was happy to leave the crowd behind.

Keepadaclickn,

Pete

David John Caruso & Teresa Palmer in Berlin for the “I Am Number Four” Premiere 11.03.2011

David John Caruso-Director & Teresa Palmer-Actor CineStar, Berlin 11.03.2011

In Berlin, you may find all the information about the movie below

“Ich Bin Nummer Vier”

I was waiting for this premiere for two weeks. I look forward to attending all premieres at the Cine Star/Sony Center because I love the atmosphere. With the “I Am Number Four” premiere, it took some work finding the location. Finding the location?

The location was at the Sony Center but was inside the cinema. Usually, the premieres are held outside  a drive through for the escorting cars, fans on both ides, followed by the press photographers and film media for interviews. I should also mention the mass security that is well present. When I first got there; I noticed no such welcoming or décor that one witnesses upon approaching the complex. “What the?”. I went to the other affiliate Cinemaxx to see if they re-located the premiere. Nothing. I asked the “Info Girl” at the counter who explained to me that it is at the Sony Center but inside. I went back to give myself a last attempt at finding out where it was. I entered the Cine Star Theatre and noticed a sign “AKKREDITIRUNG-PRESS”.

I was in and with the press guys and girls! I positioned myself in the back and was just content being there. I prefer the crowd area more as I like to talk to “The Stars” get a photo and an autograph. I was quiet on this evening as I was in the press section. I was happy with the few photos I got and the little press experience I received. The press people shout for photos. If I develop my shouting in the press section like I do outside of it, LOOK OUT!

I Am Number 12-03-1966

Keep Focused

Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston & Brooklyn Decker in Berlin for the “Just Go With It” premiere 21.02.2011

Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler & Brooklyn Decker: JUST GO WITH IT!

Adam Sandler is one of my favourite Hollywood/NYC Star. I watch all of his movies. I was really excited last week when reading that he will be at the Sony Center/Potsdamer Platz, location, to promote his latest movie “Just Go with It”. It was a bonus because Jennifer Aniston was with him. I knew of her when she started with FRIENDS! As for Brooklyn Decker, it was my first introduction into knowing who she is. Two words about Brooklyn: OOh LAla! What an Amazon! That´s more than two but! I am much older but for the young bucks she really is a stunner! Striking beauty is old and ugly compare to the new evolved definition of what she presented last night at the premiere.

Brooklyn Decker: Fashion model(actress (U.S.A)

Adam Sandler with his Fans

I was cruising the net  for other personalities who would be in attendance; such as directors producers writers, when I noticed the regular site I get the info about the premieres changed the time to 6:30pm. I quickly gathered my gear and headed for the subway and possibly get the last part of it! I got there and I was in the clear as the old timing was still active.7:00pm. I was just beside the press section with my ladder along with other “Celeb Hobby Photographers” and went through my routine getting ready for when it really counts. I was ready. “125/5.6 here, Flash off on this setting, change the flash setting when they are in that section, P mode for when they´re here”, etc. Sounds great! Locked and loaded! That all went out the window when it was time to perform.

Adam Sandler: 1966 Guy! (Sept.9)

Jennifer Aniston: Sweet!

I got Adam Sandler´s attention by saying to him,” Mr. Sandler. Mr. Sandler. Can you please be so kind by posing for a photo” (I said it with a funny voice). He came right my way and posed! I was so pumped I forgot to change my setting but, still, managed to get a decent shot! I continued saying to him, “Got it! Thanks. Have a wonderful evening!”. When I checked the picture, I quickly boosted up my flash to zero because I didn´t want to have the same light setting with Jennifer Aniston. I said to her “Jennifer a picture for my daughter. A picture for my daughter?” She started to laugh and I got my shot! Not the best but really good! She continued talking to me which was a surprise. She said,”Where do you come from?” I said, proudly,” From Canada”. She is really sweet. It was no act. I think she may have thought I was a stalker or paparazzi  because I  set up my ladder directly behind the press section, where they were to be interviewed, and started to do some photos without flash on f2.8.-f3.5. Although, I knew many photos would be for the trash bin, I knew the ones in-focus would be awesome. Yes, I got some awesome shots!

Before Adam & Jennifer, Brooklyn Decker was out of the car giving autographs (which is normal) and was in the press section to get her press photos taken. I had no chance before, but did get some good candid  shots. She was really something on the red carpet! You have to see her live! There is a difference between models and actors. Models know how to look and pose. While I was experimenting with my F2.8 behind the press section, I noticed Brooklyn´s features had changed. Changed to normal. Very concentrated on what the interviewer had to say and responded in-depth. I was happy to photograph her and that she will be in my portfolio.

I was happy to be back at the Sony Center/Potsdamer Platz/ Cine Star location again. The organizers of the premiere make it safe and Fan friendly! I think at the next premiere I will lay low and not fire at will like I did for Adam, Jennifer and Brooklyn. But it was Adam Sandler!

CineStar/Potsdamer Platz

Dear Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston & Brooklyn Decker,

Hope I didn´t  scare you too much during your interviews.

Sincerely,

Pete

P.S. Here´s a  song to make you happy!

Hope you go see the movie

Rapid Fire Mode,

Pete

61 Berlinale Day Nine 18.02.2011 Diane Kruger “Unknown Identity” premiere & Isabella Rossellini “Late Bloomers” Special

Diane Kruger-"Unknown Identity";Press Photos

I am assuming the Berlinale Committee heard the fan section’s angry voice from the night previous, as the festival became “Fan Friendly” again. I am wondering why they would cancel out one of the main highlights of a red carpet ceremony where the stars and fans can interact. It’s normal! It’s always been that way! Is it because of security reasons? I can’t imagine as I feel Berlin is one of the safest cities in the world. And I am, visually, not German! They have a very good intelligence network and all of the events I have attended; the general public is always well behaved.

Diane Kruger_Taking care of her Fans

Diane Kruger was the highlight, tonight, with the “Unknown Identity” premiere! She exited the car and the crowd went bezerk! She was guided to give interviews and then she was escorted to the fan section by the red carpet killers, I mean, body guards, and did her trade mark for about 2 min.

Diane Kruger

That’s all we need! I was happy she did. It calmed the fans and the rest of the evening was memorable. A joy! I should also mention that she was immaculately dressed! All eyes where on her! I was not able to get a really good photo but good enough for black and white! At this premiere was a big fan turn out! One of the biggest!

Isabella Rossellini-Portrait

Aamir Khan, Sandy Powell, Jan Chapman, Nina Hoss, Guy Maddin: THE JURY

After the “unknown Identity” premiere, I headed to the Friedrichstadtpalast with magicnetzhaut to photograph, Isabella Rossellini. She was to be there for her “Late Bloomers” movie she had made with William Hurt in 1995. It was a Berlinale Special Event. William Hurt did not attend but the 61st Berlinale Jury did to support their Jury President. The other members of the Jury were Sandy Powell, Jan Chapman, Nina Hoss, Guy Maddin and Aamir Khan! During the whole week I wanted to photograph him. I not only photographed him; I got an autograph and got a picture with him! The disappointment of the last days left! Aamir Khan was the biggest star of the 61st Berlinale…for me!

It was also a little odd at the “Late Bloomers” Special because there was hardly any fans, press or guests. I thought for sure with a legend actress such as Isabella Rossellini and the goodwill she has done; that there would be extreme press coverage. They do advertise 4000 accredited journalists at the Berlinale (I read in the programme booklet). It did not bother me, as I knew I would get many good pictures of Isabella Rossellini. I was not even in the mood to shout. It was a peaceful premiere and she looked very elegant in her black tux outfit with a pink shall to protect her from the cold.

Nina Hoss: Actor

I, along with Magicnetzhaut, was very happy with a successful day of photography. We both got that “Berlinale Fever” again. We were heading to the subway and to my surprise I noticed walking towards the Friedrichstadtpalast was Donata Wenders! What a sweet lady! She was in no hurry to brush us off and even got a nice photo of her and Magicnetzhaut together. That´s what a festival is all about! Good vibes and good things will happen.

Donata Wenders & Magicnetzhaut

Be Good,

Pete

61 Berlinale Day Eight 17.02.2011 “Alexander Fehling” BerlinBolide´s First Hero

Alexander Fehling: Actor/Hero

Day eight! The 61 Berlinale has a HERO!

His name

ALEXANDER FEHLING

The Berlinale Fever has come to an end! Why?

Because it is too obvious to me that the media are disrespectful to the fans who buy tickets to the movies , rent movies, buy movies, music sound tracks, posters, momorabilia, etc.

Many movie fans go out to collect an autograph, get a photo, or just take in the Berlinale atmosphere.

Well, it´s not happening at the 61 Berlinale!

The old, German, veteran actors should learn something from, the young,  Alexander Fehling. He knows the importance of premieres and gets close to the fans.

He, literally, told head of security  that he is going to the fans.

He will be bigger star and human being because of his actions and for this he has become BelinBolide´s First Hero!

August Diehl, Lena Lautemis & Alexander Fehling

The Fans: We are the idiots who spend hours,  days, maybe years of our lives consuming what the movie industry wants us to see.

We wait patiently, in the cold, waiting for a glimpse of  our favorite stars.

Vishal Bhardwaj: Bollywood Director

BOLLYWOOD in Berlin. Director, Vishal Bhardwaj, attended his premiere of “7 Khoon Maaf” at the Friedrichstadtpalast. I was happy to capture a fellow Indian and hope to capture more in the last two days of the Berlinale.

Due to the amount of pictures taken this week I have neglected writing in the past blogs. I will be  writing a complete blog about the 61 Berlinale when it´s over.

Till Then

Enjoy the Photos,

Pete

61 Berlinale Day Seven 16.02.2011 “The King’s Speech” Premiere

"The King´s Speech" premiere 17.02.2011, Berlin

After day six, I was very interested in studying the movements of the coordinators on the red carpet. I was shocked the night before with the Berlinale personnel who openly pushed the actors away from their fans and pressured them to go here and there. The actors were not at fault. Like every youth around the world, there is a time when we dream about being famous and even go to the point of designing a, super cool, signature for when we have the possibility give a signature to the fans. Well, day seven was another day when the actors could not exercise their designed trademark. Why?

Klaus Wowerreit: Berlin´s Mayor

I first went to the “Mein Bester Feind” (My Best Enemy), a German production. It had the 7:30 pm time slot and enough actors to photograph. I was not at all surprised when the actors did not come to the fan section because I noticed from previous red carpet events, the German stars do not tend to their fans. As, a foreigner, I feel sorry when witnessing such coldness and hope the actors realize that their lack of interest is damaging to the culture and puts a dark cloud over an international event.

Ursula Strauss: Actor

The Americans are the best for fan interaction. It is not only for gaining respect and get more fans, it is also part of the red carpet ceremony. And, I’m sure the actors like doing it! I only managed to get a picture of  Ursula Strauss and the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit.

Nobody signed at the premiere. One of the main actors did not show! It’s the Berlinale! In Germany!!! I think I’m missing something or I skipped a very important class in school explaining all of this. The premiere was just as I predicted and was happy to go to the Friedrichstadtpalast for “The “King’s Speech” premiere with American/English actors.

Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter & Tom Hooper

“The King’s Speech” premiere was amazing! It was jam-packed! I was happy that I had invested in a stepladder a couple of moths earlier. To all photographers, I highly recommend a two or three stepladder as part of your photography equipment. It really improves your photography! I set up at the end of the fans and just before the press photographers. I had a good look at the stars slowly making their way giving interviews for the press around the world and had the possibility of photographing the German guest stars that were on the guest list! Such as,  Katja Riemann, NadineWarmuth, , Andreas Pietschmann, Jasmine Tabatai and Bettina Cramer.

Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter & Tom Hooper

When it was time for Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Tom Hooper to get their press photos, it was very quick and together. There were no individual photos permitted, it seamed.  I was not disappointed, as I knew I had a few photos while they gave interviews to the press. Helena Bonham Carter was very happy giving autographs before the press photos to some lucky fans! She is 100% Artist!

Be Patient,

61 Berlinale Day Six 15.02.2011 “The Big Eden”; Rolf Eden; “The Future” with Miranda July & Hamish Linklater

Rolf Eden: Berlin´s Last Playboy

After “Day Five”, I was wondering what could be of interest at the 61st Berlinale on day six. Because of “The Berlinale Fever”, I watched the Berlinale Special at midnight, with Dieter Moor. On previous night, his show featured “The Big Eden” with Rolf Eden, Berlin’s Last Playboy! I had to go.

Rolf Eden with the Press

Rolf Eden: The Promoter

It was an afternoon premiere in the, once was, DDR! Is that a “No Go Area” for foreigners? Who cares? I don’t live scared and paranoid. I went with my gear early enough to do some reportage photography. Such as: The Cinema, The press, the surroundings, and the fans. The Fans? I didn’t notice any. All I saw was media people. I am not a journalist to find out what was happening at the “Kino International” with Rolf Eden’s film (A biography) that was presented at the Berlinale. Well, from what I heard and read; it was an embarrassment his film was included in the Berlinale. Why is that?

Rolf Eden was the biggest, most successful club owner in Berlin. Having four clubs running simultaneously, all making money. Wow! That’s a lot of money the city made from him! He is a multi-millionaire and a permanent name in Berlin’s city nightlife scene. He entertained the rich and famous, now they are old and distancing themselves from him. I hardly know the whole story (we never know the whole story) but I was thrilled to be part of Rolf Eden’s historical day.

Rolf Eden being interviewed

Irit, Rolf & Brigitte

When he exited the car, he posed for all of the photographers. He did not exclude anyone. Which to me shows class. He was wearing a beautiful suit and was in great spirits. His girlfriend, Brigitte, and friend, Idit, accompanied him to the “Kino”. It was a small gathering of press people and to my surprise foreign press covered his premiere. I think they were from England. I was standing beside them with my autograph book at the same time and when Mr. Eden was done with the interview, in English, he signed my book. I thanked him and wished him a wonderful evening. He replied by saying, “Well, thank you! That’s very kind of you”. He entered the Kino, I gathered my stuff together and headed for the Berlinale Palast (Theater Am Potsdamer Platz) for “The Future” premiere.

Hashim Linklater poses for Berlinbolide

Miranda July getting scared on the red carpet

“The Future” premiere with Miranda July, Hamish Latelater, and David Warshofski was weird! The Berlinale took a turn, because the stars were being hurried and pushed around. So much that the stars were aggravated and the fans were a little disappointed. I noticed this when Hamish came out of the car. He was directly going to the fan section to give out some autographs to gain some new fans. He was shouted at to come to the red carpet. He was saying loud enough for me and other fans to here him; he said,” I gotta go they’re calling me”. He felt bad for us and came over anyways. He gave one autograph. While he was signing I said to him,” Hey Hamish! When your done signing can you give me a look?” He said back,” Sure I can!” He was done and gave me a look. I, naturally, went into my,” Thanks, have a wonderful evening”, line. He never returned to the fans in the cold. They, also, told Miranda July to stop signing. She did not look happy!

Miranda July being told to stop signing autographs

To the Berlinale committee: When hosting people from other countries it is nice to make them feel at home. When a guest feels uncomfortable, you will not hear from them again!

Till Tomorrow,

Pete
